Introduction

The Luojiang 洛江river estuary is worth searching in winter for species such as Peregrine, Black-tailed Gull, Saunders’s Gull, Whiskered Tern, Caspian Tern, Chinese Penduline Tit and Common Reed Bunting. At high tide good numbers of waders, including Dunlin, Kentish Plover and Curlew, roost at the river mouth in Quanzhou Bay and in the surrounding estuary area.

The Anping bridge area (shown in photograph) can be quite good for waders and other shorebirds.

Getting there

Quanzhou is a large city in Fujian and easily reached from Xiamen in the south and Fuzhou in the north.
