Introduction

Tainan is Taiwan's fourth city. Birding places from here include the mangrove area around Sihcao Dazhong Temple.

 

Key Species

Grey-throated Martin breeds in the earth banks not far from the boat jetty.

 

Other Species

Great Egret, Intermediate Egret, Cattle Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, Black-winged Stilt. Waders such as Ruddy Turnstone occur on passage.

Getting there

a train to Tainan from Kaohsiung takes about an hour. A taxi from the city centre to Sihcao Dazhong temple 西草大眾廟 takes about 20 minutes. Bird around this area. The tourist boats are noisy but the birds seem to be fairly used to them.
